{"id":11373,"date":"2024-01-17T12:33:00","date_gmt":"2024-01-17T20:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/osfbl01.justfoodfordogs.com\/?p=11373"},"modified":"2026-10-27T11:58:36","modified_gmt":"2026-10-27T18:58:36","slug":"pet-poison-prevention-advice-from-a-veterinary-toxicologist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/justfoodfordogs.com\/blog\/pet-poison-prevention-advice-from-a-veterinary-toxicologist","title":{"rendered":"Pet Poison Prevention Advice from a Veterinary Toxicologist"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. John Tegzes, VMD, Diplomat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abvt.org\/\">American Board of Veterinary Toxicology<\/a> from Western University of Health Sciences, provides a quick overview of what can make your dog sick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-can-dogs-eat-leftovers-nbsp\">Can Dogs Eat Leftovers?&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDogs sometimes have food seeking behaviors, they\u2019ll get into the garbage and they&#8217;ll eat the scraps of food that we either throw away that we used in cooking or that got spoiled in the refrigerator.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However dogs are very sensitive to the molds that sometimes grow in foods that are in the trash such as moldy cheeses and moldy breads.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-can-happen-if-my-dog-eats-from-the-garbage\">What Can Happen If My Dog Eats From The Garbage?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You have to be really careful about dogs getting into those as those molds can produce toxins <a href=\"https:\/\/justfoodfordogs.com\/blog\/symptoms-of-mycotoxin-poisoning-in-dogs.html\">called mycotoxins<\/a> that can cause tremoring and seizure activity in dogs.
